COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
PURCHASING & INTERNAL SERVICES MEMORANDUM
#14-04
February 10, 2014
TO: Honorable Mayor McElroy and City Council
FROM: Ryan P. McCrady, City Manager
Gregg Zientara, Financial Management Director
Deborah M. Perry, Purchasing Supervisor
SUBJECT: Technology Systems Purchase
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding contract to Bodine
Communications to provide the technology systems package and installation for the Police
Department.
BACKGROUND: The Police Department will move to their new building during the second
quarter of 2014. The equipment currently being used by the Police Department is the property of
the Law Enforcement Commission which owns/manages the LEC building.
The City of Decatur hired Dewberryto design the technology system package including
specifying the manufacturers, model numbers, and quantities for this site.
The technology system package consists of three areas as follows:
- Structured Cabliniz — This is cabling which supports the City's computer network for all
workstations, conference rooms, and system needs throughout the building. A server room is
included along with equipment racks. This system also includes conduit, back boxes, cable
trays, power, and a telecommunications duct bank for bringing incoming service into the
building for a phone system. The cabling in this area will support the distribution of cable
television throughout the building by identifying drop locations, splitter/tap offs, and amplifiers
for distribution of signal furnished by the cable provider.
- Audio/Visual System— Included in this area will be presentations of visual mediums and audio
reinforcement for conference rooms, meeting rooms, training rooms, and an ERT briefing room.
