ORDINANCE NO. 2015-21 ORDINANCE DESIGNATING LOCAL LANDMARK For DENNIS SCHOOL MONARCH BUTTERFLY MONUMENT WHEREAS,the Dennis School Monarch Butterfly Monument is historically significant in that it meets the following criteria set forth in Chapter 31, Section 4, of the Decatur Municipal Code: (a) It has character, interest or value as part of the development, heritage or cultural characteristics of the City of Decatur, County of Macon,State of Illinois, or United States of America; (b) It was the location of a significant local, county,state or national event; (c) It is identified with a person or persons who significantly contributed to the development of the City, County,State or Nation; (d) It has a unique location or singular physical characteristics that make it an established or familiar visual feature; and WHEREAS, on April 15,2015,the Historical and Architectural Sites Commission held a Public Hearing pursuant to Decatur City Code Chapter 31, Section 7, on the proposed designation as a Landmark and voted unanimously, by a vote of eight to zero (8-0),to recommend that the City Council designate the Monarch Butterfly Monument as a Landmark. NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DECATUR, ILLINOIS,as follows: Section 1. That the foregoing recitals shall be and are hereby incorporated in this Section 1 as if said recitals were fully set forth. Section 2.That the recommendation of the Decatur Historical and Architectural Sites Commission be, and the same is hereby, received, placed on file, and approved. Section 3. That the Dennis School Monarch Butterfly Monument is hereby designated as a Landmark pursuant to Decatur City Code Chapter 31. Section 4. That the Mayor and City Clerk on behalf of the City of Decatur execute such documents and all other documents necessary for the carrying out of said Landmark designation.
