COUNCIL MEMORANDUM
#2015 - 01
DATE: January 7, 2015
TO: Honorable Mayor Michael T. McElroy and City Council
FROM: Gregg D. Zientara, Interim City Manager
SUBJECT: City Code Chapter 7 Amendment
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that City Council (approve the attached
ordinance regarding an addition to Chapter 7 of City Code, to provide for the position of
Executive Assistant in the City Manager's Office.
BACKGROUND: The position of Administrative Secretary in the City Manager's Office was
recently vacated. In an effort to consolidate duties and provide for a higher level of assistance
in this office prior to the appointment of a replacement, it is now recommended that the position
of Executive Assistant be created to supersede the position of Administrative Secretary. Duties
of the new position would include those of the Administrative Secretary, but would also
encompass a number of additional responsibilities not previously assigned to the position. For
this reason, it is recommended the new position be created and the current one be eliminated.
In order to implement this recommendation, Council's approval of the attached change in City
Code Chapter 7, Section 2 is required. The title of"Executive Assistant" would be added to the
document. It is recommended that the change take effect immediately upon approval by
Council.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: There are no known objectors to this change.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None.
STAFF REFERENCE: Questions regarding the ordinance should be directed to me, at 424-
2801 or gzientara(a)-decaturil.aov.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: There would be no net change in the number of authorized
positions in the department. The 2015 budget as approved by City Council on December 1,
2014, includes funding for the proposed position.
Attachment
