DEVELOPMENT SERVICES MEMORANDUM
Memo No. 13 - 55
July 10, 2013
TO: Honorable Mayor Michael T. McElroy and City Council
FROM: Ryan P McCrady, CitManager
Billy Tyus, Assistant City Manager
Mark L. Smith, Senior Planner
SUBJECT: Annexation of Property at 1675 North Sunnyside Road
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: This annexation is predicated upon a previously executed
"Water Agreement." Staff recommends he subject annexation petition be approved. Staff is of the
opinion that the proposed annexation would produce a logical extension of the corporate limits.
BACKGROUND: Over the last several years city staff has been directed to pursue, whenever
feasible, extensions of city boundaries through the use of annexation. The subject property is
immediately bounded on the north, west and south by land located in the County. Property
immediately adjacent to the east is within Decatur's City limits. The lot contains approximately 4.0
acres and is improved with a single family residence and accessory uses. The following information
is relevant to the area in question:
1. City water is currently available and connected to the subject property.
2. No additional public infrastructure or municipal services are needed or contemplated.
3. Decatur Fire response distance and time averages 3.3 miles and 6.5 minute 3, respectively.
If annexed, the property would come into the city as R-1, Single Family Residenc District. Property
to the east is zoned R-1 Single Family Residence District.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: No known objections.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: The plat and annexation request has been reviewed by
Municipal Services, Public Works, Fire, Legal, Finance, The Sanitary District of Decatur and Macon
County Health Department. All of the reviewers recommend the annexation be approved.
STAFF REFERENCE: Questions concerning this annexation request should be forwarded to Mark
Smith at 424-2790 or mismith@decaturil.gov or Billy Tyus at 424-2727 or btyusCmdecaturil.gov.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: Based on the tax value, the City's Finance Department
estimates $275.48 in real estate, $217.41 in motor fuel and $193.24 in state inc me taxes may be
realized by annexing the property.
