DEVELOPMENT SERVICES MEMORANDUM
Memo No. 13 - 32
April 29, 2013
TO: Honorable Mayor Michael T. McElroy and City Council
FROM: Ryan P. McCrady, City Manager
Billy Tyus, Assistant City Manager
Mark L. Smith, Senior Planner
SUBJECT: Annexation of Property at 1777 N. Sunnyside Road
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the subject annexation petition be
approved. Staff is of the opinion that the proposed annexation would produce a logical extension of
the corporate limits.
BACKGROUND: Over the last several years city staff has been directed to'I pursue, whenever
feasible, extensions of city boundaries through the use of annexation. The ubject property is
immediately bounded on the west and south by lots located in the County. Property immediately
adjacent to the east and north is within Decatur's City limits. The lot contains 4pproximately 0.37
acres. The lot is improved with a residence and accessory uses. The following information is relevant
to the area in question:
1. City water is currently available and connected to the subject property.
2. No additional public infrastructure or municipal services are needed or contemplated.
3. Decatur Fire response distance and time averages 3.65 miles and 7.00 minutes, respectively.
If annexed, the property would come into the city as R-1, Single Family Residence District. Property
to the east is zoned R-1 Single Family Residence District.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: No known objections.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: The plat and annexation request has been reviewed by
Municipal Services, Public Works, Fire, Legal, Finance, The Sanitary District of Decatur and Macon
County Health Department. All of the reviewers recommend the annexation be approved.
STAFF REFERENCE: Questions concerning this annexation request should be forwarded to Mark
Smith at 424-2790 or mismith@decaturil.gov or Billy Tyus at 424-2727 or btyus4decaturil.gov.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: Based on the tax value, approximately $1$6.50 in real estate,
$217.41 in motor fuel and $193.24 in state income taxes may be realized by anneing the property.
