EXCERPTS OF THE
MINUTES OF THE
TRAFFIC AND PARKING COMMISSION MEETIN
Thursday, March 28, 2013, 4:00 P.M.
Item#1 Request for stop signs at the intersection of Folk/Walnut and Folk/Hickory
facing Folk Street.
Griffin Enyart informed the Commission that Fanfield residents requested the stop signs during a
City Council sponsored neighborhood walk. Sight distance makes it difficult to see around the
corners. There are two recorded accidents at Hickory and Folk and four recd ded accidents at
Walnut and Folk. The accidents were angle collisions caused by not being able to see each other
and not knowing which driver was supposed to stop. Folk Street has less traffic.
Mrs. Winter asked if staff had determined that a stop sign would be more eff ctive than a yield
sign. Griffin Enyart explained that yield signs are not quite as effective, especially when there is
a sight distance issue. Usually stop signs are easier to see and more strict in requiring a vehicle
to stop.
Staff recommends that stop signs be installed facing Folk Street at both intersections.
Wick Anderson motioned to approve the recommendation; seconded by Jim Chervinko, and on
call of the roll, Commission Member Anderson, Winter, Garry, Meador, Chervinko, Smith,
Newell, Nihiser, Enyart, and Marley voted aye. The Secretary declared the tion carried.
