McCrady, City Manager
Richard G. Marley, P.E., Public Works Director
SUBJECT: Ordinance Authorizing the Installation of Stop Signs at th Intersections of
Folk/Walnut and Folk/Hickory facing Folk Street
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council approve and that the Mayor be authc rized to sign and
the City Clerk to attest to the following items:
1. Hickory Street
facing N. Folk Street.
BACKGROUND:
On March 28, 2013, the Traffic&Parking Commission approved a request from City staff
recommending that stop signs be installed at the intersection of Folk/Walnul and Folk/Hickory
with the stop signs facing Folk Street at both intersections.
Staff recommends that stop signs be installed as a result of a traffic study per ormed by the
Public Works Department showing two recorded accidents within the past three years occurring
at Hickory and Folk and four recorded accidents within the past three years al Walnut and Folk
combined with low traffic volumes indicating the need for traffic control. The high accident rate
combined with poor sight distance indicates the need for stop signs.
The Traffic and Parking Commission's recommendation is attached with the rdinance for
Council's review.
SCHEDULE: Installation is normally completed within 10 days of Council authorization.
BUDGET AND STAFFING IMPLICATIONS: Budgetary impacts are approximately$500
for the installation of the requested signs and pavement markings and approximately 2 hours of
staff time to make and install the signs.
Page I I
