Excerpts from Plan Commission Minutes of January 3,2013:
Cal. No. 13-01 Petition of ARCHER DANIELS MIDLAND
COMPANY, to rezone property located at 2098
NORTH 34th STREET from R-31 Single Family
Residence District to M-2 Heavy Industrial District.
Ms. Suzy Stickle was sworn in by Mrs. Janet Poland.
Ms. Stickle presented the recommendation of staff:
The subject site is approximately 10 acres and is located at the former Spencer Park.
Properties to the north, south and east were approved for rezoning to 42 Heavy Industrial
District by the City Council in July 2012.
The petitioner proposes to rezone from R-3 Single Family Residence Di$trict to M-2 Heavy
Industrial District. ADM is rezoning to create a universal zoning classific4tion between ADM
owned properties, including newly acquired former Spencer Park.
The surrounding zoning includes M-2 Heavy Industrial District to the nort , south and east and
R-3 Single Family Residence District to the west. The Macon Cunty and Decatur
Comprehensive Plan shows this area as Open Space. The proposed usej is compatible with
adjacent uses to the north, south and east.
Staff recommends approval of the rezoning.
Section XXIX. of the City of Decatur Zoning Ordinance requires the Plan Commission to hold a
public hearing on a rezoning request, and then forward its report and recommendation to the City
Council for final approval. A motion to forward Calendar Number 13-01 Ito the City Council
with a recommendation for approval is suggested.
Mr. Adam Artz, representative, was sworn in by Mrs. Poland.
Mr. Artz stated this is a follow-up to a rezoning which was started in July of 2012 by ADM
which rezoned adjacent properties for several small infrastructure projects. The proposed
rezoning will be consistent with the entire area and will allow for future industrial use of the
property.
There were no questions and no objectors present.
It was moved and seconded (Newton/Myatt) to forward Calendar No. 13-011 to the City Council
with recommendation for approval as submitted. Motion carried unanimously.
