Sweeney, Lieutenant Administrative Operations <br /> i <br /> Subject: Request for Honorary Street Signs. <br /> i <br /> PURPOSE:The purpose of this memorandum is to request the approval of two honorary+eet signs in honor of <br /> Decatur Police Chaplain BG Nevitt. <br /> BACKGROUND: In August of 2008, Pastor BG Nevitt was appointed as the lead chap ain for the Decatur <br /> Police Department's Police Chaplain Program. Pastor Nevitt quickly became an awesome resource for the men <br /> and women of the Decatur Police Department. He provided interpersonal assistance to o it officers that <br /> included stress management, relationship counseling, and grief counseling. Pastor Nevitt married police <br /> officers,celebrated the birth of police officers' children,celebrated police officers' promo ions and retirements, <br /> and spent his holidays serving our on-duty police officers a meal. In 2009, Pastor Nevitt asked to give even <br /> more to the Decatur Police Department and community,thus applied to become a Decatur Police Auxiliary <br /> Officer. He soon excelled in this role as well,eventually become a Decatur Police Auxiliary Sergeant. BG <br /> Nevitt dedicated countless hours to the Decatur Police Department serving as our Police Chaplain and as an <br /> Auxiliary Police Sergeant. <br /> Outside the police department, Pastor Nevitt was a well known community leader. BG 1,evitt was the lead <br /> pastor of GT Church. Annually he served as the master of ceremony for the Blessing of d a Bikes,911 Tribute. <br /> and Law Enforcement Memorial Day. Pastor Nevitt was also popular at the annual Com unity Prayer <br /> Breakfast sponsored by St. Mary's Hospital,the Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce,and the Community <br /> Leaders Breakfast. On Saturday,August 17`h,2013, Pastor BG Nevitt died in a fatal mo rcycle accident in <br /> Decatur, II. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: It would be the recommendation of the men and women of the Decatur Police <br /> Department that 500 South 27'x'Street receive the honorary street name of BG Nevitt Boulevard. Weare <br /> recommending two honorary street signs be posted at the intersection of 27`h Street and US Route 36. It should <br /> be noted that GT Church is located at 500 S. 27'x' Street. <br /> COSTS: The Traffic& Parking Supervisor has quoted the cost of two honorary street signs at$75.00 each. <br /> The Decatur Police Benevolent Association and the Decatur Police Chaplain Committee will manage the costs <br /> associated with the signs. <br /> ATTACHMENTS: Photos of the 27°i Street intersection with US Route 36 where we are requesting the two <br /> honorary street signs to be placed. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None Anticipated <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: Todd A.
