Smith, Senior Planner <br /> SUBJECT: Adoption of Macon County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the subject Mitigation Plan be approved. <br /> Staff believes adoption of the Plan is in the best interests of and will benefit residents, property <br /> owners, first responders and emergency personnel in Decatur and Macon County when emergency <br /> situations arise. <br /> BACKGROUND: In October of 2009, the Macon County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) <br /> brought representatives of local governments throughout the County together to begin creation of a <br /> countywide mitigation plan. Mitigation plans identify and assess disaster risks, create policies and <br /> action steps needed to reduce damages to lives, property, and the economy from future disasters. <br /> On June 21, 2010, the Decatur City Council adopted Resolution 2010-133, which expressed the <br /> City's intent to participate in the mitigation planning process. The completed Plan was submitted to <br /> the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) late in 2012. FEMA approved the Mitigation <br /> Plan on September 13, 2013, The City is now being asked to approve and adopt the subject Plan, a <br /> copy of which is attached. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: No known objections. <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Cities, villages, townships, schools and educational <br /> institutions, fire and emergency responders, public utilities, conservation and resource management <br /> entities, surveys, conversations with numerous small to large stakeholders, and an extensive public <br /> review and comment period. <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: Questions concerning this item should be forwarded to Mark Smith at 424- <br /> 2790 or mismith@decaturil.gov. <br /> BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: None. <br />
