COUNCIL MEMORANDUM <br /> #2013-10 <br /> DATE: July 10, 2013 <br /> TO: Honorable Mayor Michael T. McElroy and City Council <br /> FROM: Ryan P. McCrady, City Manager <br /> SUBJECT: Request for Parking Facilities for Decatur Celebration <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the attached resolution <br /> authorizing Decatur Celebration to charge $5.00 per vehicle for parking in City Garages B and <br /> C, City Lot A (southeast corner of Wood and Main Streets) and City Lot F (northeast corner of <br /> Wood and Main Streets) for the Decatur Celebration on August 2, 3, and 4, 2013. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Decatur Celebration is scheduled for downtown Decatur on August 2 <br /> through 4, 2013. As in past years, the Celebration is asking the City for permission to charge <br /> $5.00 per vehicle for parking in municipal parking garages B (Water and North Street) and C <br /> (Wood and Franklin Street), as well as City lots A and F, which are at Main and Wood Street, <br /> just south of Celebration perimeters. <br /> Also, in an effort to assist retail and restaurant businesses in downtown Decatur during <br /> Celebration weekend, the Celebration will again be offering patron perking validation and <br /> refunds this year. <br /> If the Council approves this request, this will be the eighth consecutive year this organization <br /> has been given permission to charge for parking at these facilities and retain the proceeds. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: There are no known objectors to this request.
