SECTIONTWO Historical Site Investigations
2.1 HISTORICAL SITE INVESTIGATIONS
Existing plans indicate that the west abutment of the existing structure is supported by a 12'-9"
width spread footing foundation, and the east abutment is supported by a 10'-0" width spread
footing. Information concerning the pier is limited, but the plans indicate that it too is supported
by a spread footing foundation. No existing subsurface data was located from the original
construction.
In June 2000, three borings were drilled by SKS Engineers, Inc. at the ADM Research Center
located approximately 1600 feet to the southwest of the project site. These borings were
provided to URS to assist in the development of the exploration program. All three borings were
drilled to 26 feet deep and indicated medium-stiff silty clays in the upper 15 feet of the boring,
with strengths increasing to very stiff and hard below 15 feet deep.
i
1
I
2-1
1
