SCOPE OF SERVICES:
Manholes
1. Physically locate and mark the manholes on the project sewers. (Check the hydrogen sulfide
concentration in the sewer at key manholes.)
2. Perform a closed level circuit to establish the rim elevations of the manholes on the project
sewers.
3. Photograph the location of each manhole. Visually inspect the manhole from the surface and note
any irregularities. Measure the depth of each manhole and establish an invert elevation.
4. From record drawings and measured depths, draft a detail for each manhole.
5. Review Telescan manhole inspection logs and CCTV files. Mark up manhole drawings with
defects for repair. The City shall furnish current inspection logs and CCTV files for all manholes.
6. Draft defects onto the manhole detail drawings.
7. Design the necessary repairs and rehabilitation for each manhole.
8. Draft the repairs and rehabilitation onto the detail drawings.
9. Tabulate the manhole repair and rehabilitation quantities.
10. Write technical specifications for the manhole repair and rehabilitation techniques.
11. Write special conditions/provisions for specific areas of attention.
12. BGM will use the City's hydrogen sulfide gas monitors for checking gas concentrations in
manholes. Any cost for calibration and/or repair of the equipment not caused by BGM will be
considered a direct cost of the project.
Trunk Sewer
1. From record drawings and measured manhole invert elevations, draft a plan and profile for each
sewer at an appropriate horizontal and vertical scale.
2. Review Telescan CCTV files and reports. Tabulate sewer conditions and defects. The City shall
furnish current inspection logs and CCTV files for all project sewers.
3. At an estimated 3 locations an internal inspection will be made to verify the condition of the
sewer walls and sewer bottom. The location of the inspections will be made based on the defects
shown on the CCTV files and the accessibility to the sewer. The inspections will be made
upstream and downstream of the entry manholes. These inspections are classified as confined
space entries. The entry will be done with an experienced and trained 6 man crew. Two men will
be inside the sewer, one man at the entry manhole, one man at the emergency exit manhole, and
one man at each of the two ventilation blowers. The crew will be equipped with a personnel
wench, harness, two generators, two blowers, one air quality meter, two emergency air pacts, and
necessary protective ware.
4. Draft defects, sewer conditions and other information onto the sewer profile drawings.
5. Design the necessary repairs and rehabilitation for each sewer segment between manholes.
6. Draft the repairs and rehabilitation onto the sewer profile drawings.
7. Tabulate the repair and rehabilitation on a schedule of quantities.
8. Write technical specifications for each of the sewer repair and rehabilitation techniques.
9. Write special conditions/provisions for specific areas of attention.
Opinion of Probable Cost
1. An opinion of probable cost will be prepared for the project sewers. Most of the items will be
based on estimated quantities and projected unit costs.
Technical Peer Review
1. Perform an in house peer review by an engineer and technical staff who have not worked on the
project.
Last Revised:09/12/2012
