AMENDMENT OF OPERATION UPLIFT AGREEMENT.......................................page 2
The following table shows the average fares charged by Alpha& Omega
Transit Network, their estimated fares with the requested surcharge, and
the Transit System's estimated average cost per trip.
Currently Beginning
(thru April 30) May 1
Average fare for a trip provided by $11.10 $13.12
Alpha& Omega Transit Network
Requested surcharge $2.50 $2.50
Average fare for each trip made by a $13.60 $15.62
rider in a wheelchair, with the surcharge
Transit System's average cost for a trip $16.92 $17.79
in one of it's wheelchair accessible vans
These figures show that it would be more economical to pay Alpha &
Omega Transit Network to provide trips for riders in wheelchairs, even
with the requested $2.50 surcharge, than to provide those trips using the
Transit System's vans and drivers.
Attached is page 7 of the Agreement with Alpha& Omega Transit
Network. The proposed surcharge has been added to the table of fares.
Staff has had a good working relationship with Alpha& Omega Transit
Network and we are satisfied with the firm's ability and competence to
perform the work required. Staff recommends that the Agreement be
amended to add the requested $2.50 surcharge for each trip made by a
rider in a wheelchair in their wheelchair accessible van under the Transit
System's Operation Uplift program.
POTENTIAL No known objection to amending the agreement with Alpha& Omega
OBJECTION: Transit Network, Inc.
INPUT FROM Richard Foiles, General Manager
OTHER SOURCES: Decatur Public Transit System
STAFF REFERENCE: Paul McChancy, Mass Transit Administrator
BUDGET/TIME The cost of any trips provided by Alpha& Omega Transit Network will
IMPLICATIONS: be less than the cost to provide those trips using the Transit System's
vans and drivers.
