Perry, Purchasing Supervisor <br /> SUBJECT: Resolution Accepting the Bid of Miles Chevrolet for the Purchase of Nine (9) <br /> 2012 Chevrolet Impala Police Pursuit Vehicles <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding contract in the amount of <br /> $188,937.00 to Miles Chevrolet Decatur, IL,to furnish nine (9) 2012 Chevrolet Impala Police pursuit <br /> vehicles. <br /> BACKGROUND: The vehicles will be used by the Police Department. The pursuit vehicles will <br /> replace (3) 2003, (1) 2008, (3) 2009, and (2) 2010, and Chevrolet Impala models currently in service. <br /> Useful life for these Police pursuit vehicles has expired. Normal life expectancy is two years. Units <br /> #813, #815, #817, #821, and #823 were in a patrol status for the first two years when first purchased <br /> then re-numbered and later used by Crime Prevention, Professional Standards, and school liaison to <br /> extend the usage. Units #824, #825, and #826 have been utilized as patrol down cars and school <br /> liaison cars. <br /> The new units will be put into patrol status and then those older units will be re-number and then be <br /> utilized by Crime Prevention, Professional Standards, and school liaison to extend their usage. One <br /> new unit #883 will be assigned to Chief Walker; his car will then be re-numbered to #861, and used <br /> by Deputy Chief Chervinko. Unit #861 is an administrative vehicle and will be re-numbered to #407 <br /> and used by Fleet Maintenance for a pool vehicle. The vehicles listed below will be auctioned on a <br /> later date. <br /> The estimated delivery time is 60 days or less. After delivery, Fleet Maintenance mechanics will need <br /> about three to four days per vehicle to transfer and install police equipment (light bars, sirens and <br /> internal equipment) from the old to the new vehicles. The police equipment in six of the nine vehicles <br /> is new enough to re-use. The equipment in the three 2003 units is too old to re-use and will be <br /> replaced with new equipment.
