McElroy, Mayor <br /> SUBJECT: City Manager's Employment Contract <br /> On the Agenda tonight is an Ordinance amending the City Manager's contract. Our <br /> current City Manager began employment with the City on October 20, 2008. Since that time, <br /> there has been one adjustment to his compensation. We have researched the salaries and <br /> compensation packages of comparable communities with similar types of forms of government <br /> including Champaign, Peoria, Bloomington and Normal. The average compensation package of <br /> those communities is $174,606. Our compensation package is significantly less than that. It is <br /> important that we be able to attract and maintain valued employees which certainly includes our <br /> current City Manager. <br /> The Ordinance before us tonight will attempt to bring the City Manager closer to the <br /> comparables of his peers in a structured manner. It includes extending the contract for five (5) <br /> years, a five (5)percent raise for each of those years and a similar vehicle allowance increase and <br /> support for the Manager to obtain his ICMA Credentialed Manager title. <br />
