Mass Transit Memorandum <br /> No. 110712-1 <br /> November 7, 2012 <br /> TO: Honorable Mayor McElroy and City Council Members <br /> FROM: Ryan McCrady, City Manager <br /> Paul McChancy, Mass Transit Administrator <br /> SUBJECT: FYI IDOT Downstate Capital Grant Application <br /> SUMMARY Staff recommends that Council approve a Resolution to authorize <br /> RECOMMENDATION: the filing of an application for an FYI downstate capital grant <br /> agreement with the Division of Public and Intermodal Trans- <br /> portation of the Illinois Department of Transportation(IDOT) in <br /> the amount of$3,000,000. <br /> BACKGROUND: The State of Illinois is offering capital grant assistance to down- <br /> state transit systems through IDOT's Division of Public and <br /> Intermodal Transportation. The maximum amount that Decatur <br /> may apply for is $3,000,000. The state will pay up to 100% of the <br /> cost of projects under this grant. All projects to be funded under <br /> this grant must be included in the approved Transportation <br /> Improvement Program (TIP). Staff proposes to request grant <br /> funding for the following projects that are listed in Decatur's <br /> current TIP: <br /> #2013-2 Bus Stop Shelters: Purchase 26 replacement bus stop <br /> shelters to replace all of the existing bus stop shelters: <br /> TIP Cost: $220,000 Requested: $220,000 <br /> #2014-1 Transit Coaches: Purchase 13 30' heavy duty, low floor <br /> transit coaches to replace all of the 200130' heavy duty coaches. <br /> TIP Cost: $2,800,000 (for 8 buses) Requested: $2,780,000 <br /> TOTAL REQUEST ...................$3,000,000. <br /> Attached are pages from the FY 2013 —FY 2016 Transportation <br /> Improvement Program which list these capital projects. <br /> Staff had proposed to use part of the FTA funds apportioned to <br /> Decatur to fund the purchase of bus stop shelters next year. Using the <br /> IDOT capital grant to finance this project will mean that an additional <br /> $220,000 in FTA funds will be available for other projects. <br />
