In addition to the basic vehicle, added options being desired include an onboard 5.5 KW Generator,a roof mounted
air conditioner, flood lighting, battery tender and a 10 foot pull out awning. The generator will be capable of power-
ing the onboard equipment, power receptacles and air conditioner. This will alleviate the need for the vehicle engine
to run for long periods of time while the scene is being processed. The awning will provide an outdoor area, pro-
tected from the environment, whereby Detectives can have a staging area for the processing of evidentiary items. It
will also provide a protected area for the Detectives to rest and cool off when processing an outdoor or indoor crime
scene during the hot summer months.
Attached to this memo is the price quotation for the Sirchie Brand Evidence Recovery Vehicle. As previously men-
tioned, the funds will not come from the General Operating Budget. For a city of this size, the acquisition of an Ev-
idence Recovery Vehicle is long overdue. It will allow the personnel within the agency to more effectively and pro-
fessionally go about the performance of their duties. It will provide for enhanced integrity regarding evidence re-
covery, tagging and processing; leading to fewer mistakes and better prosecutions. The vehicle, once ordered,
would take up to 180 days for construction. The Decatur Police Department will send personnel to Medford,NJ to
take possession of the vehicle, be provided an overview of the operational aspects of the unit and drive the unit
back. The vehicle will be white in color, with all graphics/markings being locally designed and installed upon ac-
quisition.
ATTACHMENTS:
Sirchie Price Quotation
Photos of vehicle type being sought for purchase
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS:
None anticipated
STAFF REFERENCE:
Todd A.Walker,Chief of Police
424-2741,twalker'a:;dccaturil.gov
David T.Dickerson,Deputy Chief—Investigations
424-2744,ddickerson4idecaturil.gov
116
