Public Works Memorandum
NO. 2012-51
DATE: June 26, 2012
TO: Honorable Mayor McElroy and City Council Members
FROM: Ryan P. McCrady, City Manager
Richard G. Marley, P.E., Public Works Director
SUBJECT: Resolution Approving Change Order No. 2, Kinney Contractors, Inc.,
Water Street Streetscape Enhancement- Phase 2
City Project 2011-14
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing November 21,
2012 as the completion date for the Water Street Streetscape Enhancement Project—Phase 2, City
Project 2011-14.
PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION:
Appendix A provides a summary of prior Council actions.
BACKGROUND:
Change Order#2
As the Water Street phase of the Downtown Streetscape Enhancement Improvement project nears
completion, it has been determined that it would be beneficial to complete the final landscaping later
in the fall with cooler temperatures and more favorable weather to provide the best opportunity for
plantings such as trees and grass to survive. The survival concern for the landscaping is compounded
by the drought conditions present in the area.
SCHEDULE:
Construction on the Water Street corridor is over 95% complete. Water Street, except for
landscaping, is to be completed prior to the Decatur Celebration. Landscaping work is to be
completed by November 21, 2012.
BUDGET AND STAFFING IMPLICATIONS:
Budget Impact: No additional funding is being provided for Change Order#2. The change order
delays the project completion to November 21, 2012, to install landscaping. All other aspects of the
work must be completed by July 27, 2012.
Staffing Impact: Staffing is in place to oversee this work.
Page 11
