MANAGEMENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT
Management Information Services Division
MEMORANDUM 2012-8
June 14, 2012
MEMO TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
FROM: Ryan P. McCrady, City Manager
Gerard J. Bauer, Assistant City Manager for Administration
Randy G. Aldrich, Manager, MIS Division
SUBJECT: Aerial Imagery Agreement
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that City Council approve the
attached resolution, authorizing the City Manager to pay the Macon County Emergency
Telephone Safety Board (ETSB)for use of their aerial imagery.
BACKGROUND: Aerial imagery is an important piece of information that underlies the
city's mapping initiatives. Keeping an up-to-date "base map" of the city allows city staff
quicker responses to residents and more detailed analyses for long-range projects. City
staff uses the imagery daily for verifying locations in code enforcement cases, preparing
fire response plans, writing building permits, maintaining city property, and other
functions. The city has partnered with Macon County and the Emergency Telephone
Safety Board in three previous efforts (2005, 2007 and 2009) in acquiring high-resolution
aerial imagery to supplement each of their Geographic Information Systems.
POTENTIAL OBJECTORS: None anticipated.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None.
STAFF REFERENCE: Randy Aldrich, MIS Manager (450-2239)
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: The $25,000 charge will be paid from the GIS line
item in the MIS fund, reimbursed on a pro rata basis from other funds.
1 Attachment
140
