Storm and Sanitary Sewer Improvement <br /> Project, CP 2011-09 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing the Mayor to <br /> sign and the City Clerk to attest to extending the contract completion date for the 2011 Misc. Storm and <br /> Sanitary Sewer Improvement project from June 1, 2012 to September 7, 2012. <br /> PRIOR COUNCIL ACTIONS: <br /> • May 16, 2011 —The City Council approved resolution R2011-70 executing a contract between the <br /> City of Decatur and Entler Excavating Company, Inc. for their bid price of$482,210. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The Misc. Storm and Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project is setup to provide unit prices to repair and <br /> maintain the storm and sanitary system. Due to the inconsistency of when an emergency can arise, money <br /> is reserved throughout the year in case an emergency is found near the end of the contract period. When <br /> the next year's contract is bid and awarded the remaining contract amount is used to install upgrades and <br /> other repairs to the system that are not considered emergencies. Staff proposed to extend the contract <br /> completion date to September 7, 2012. <br /> The contract has completed sanitary sewer and storm repairs at approximately 22 locations for a total <br /> amount of$290,000. The remaining $127,000 for sanitary and 65,000 for storm will be used at the <br /> following locations: <br /> Sanitary <br /> • Finish a backwater/odor valve installation on E Main Street. The valve manufacturer is <br /> constructing the valve and it is scheduled to be shipped in early July. <br /> • Install an access manhole in the alley south of the 1000 block of W Forest. <br /> • Replace a failing section of pipe on S Franklin. <br /> • The remaining amount will install access manholes as determined by municipal services. It is <br /> estimated that five access manhole will be installed. <br /> Page 1 <br />
