Anderson Plaza
Decatur, IL 62523
Re: Lake Decatur Watershed—TMDL Implementation Planning Project
Request for City Cost Share
Dear Mr. Alexander:
The Agricultural Watershed Institute (AWI)respectfully requests that the City of Decatur
provide cost share funding for the referenced project in an amount not to exceed $44,032. The
scheduled duration of this project is approximately 26 months from April 2012 through May
2014 with the match to be expended over that time period.
A copy of the Financial Assistance Agreement between the Illinois Environmental Protection
Agency(IEPA) and AWI is attached.
AWI is very pleased to have received IEPA funding for this project. As noted in the grant
agreement (page 2, Task 4 description), the planning process will be designed and conducted to
produce implementable plans for the Big Creek and Big Ditch subwatersheds and also "to serve
as a template for other watersheds to consider a suite of current and emerging BMPs effective at
reducing nutrient loss from tile-drained cropland." This project is in keeping with AWI's vision
to establish the Lake Decatur watershed as a showcase for research and demonstration of
innovative practices that protect our lake and that can be replicated in similar watersheds
throughout the Corn Belt.
We deeply appreciate the City of Decatur's support for watershed management to protect Lake
Decatur. We look forward to working with the City and watershed stakeholders during this
planning project and the implementation of the resulting plan.
Very truly yours, ACCEPTE BY I, E CIT OF DECAT
THE AGRICULTURAL WATERSHED INSTITUTE
By:
-- _ Michael T.
