RESOLUTION NO. R2012-86 <br /> RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT <br /> REGARDING LEGISLATION IN THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY <br /> TO EXTEND ILLINOIS ENTERPRISE ZONES <br /> WHEREAS, the Illinois Enterprise Zone Program has benefitted the City of <br /> Decatur by providing an economic development tool that has produced significant <br /> investment and job creation and therefore strengthening our local economy, supporting <br /> our local business enterprises and retaining and creating jobs for our local citizens; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Decatur strives to support a strong local economy and <br /> support local business investment and job growth; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Decatur fully supports the goals of the Illinois Enterprise <br /> Zone Program and enterprise zone goals for the local zone program as well; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Illinois Enterprise Zone Program and Illinois enterprise zone <br /> projects have created over 345,000 new jobs and retained over 500,000 jobs; and <br /> WHEREAS, Illinois businesses have invested over $50 billion in Illinois <br /> enterprise zones; and <br /> WHEREAS, Illinois enterprise zones, including the Decatur Macon County <br /> Enterprise Zone, will begin to expire in 2013 with severe negative impacts upon the <br /> ability of local and regional entities to offer competitive incentive packages as assistance <br /> for business retention and recruitment efforts; and <br /> WHEREAS, only prompt action by the Illinois General Assembly can avert the <br /> termination of the zone program and all it promises and delivers; and <br /> WHEREAS, such action is encouraged during the spring session of 2012; and <br />
