Alexander, Director of Water Management <br /> SUBJECT: South Water Treatment Plant Concrete Basin Repairs <br /> City Project 2011-32 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended that the City Council approve the attached resolution approving a contract in <br /> the amount of$205,408 for the South Water Treatment Plant Concrete Basin Repairs, City <br /> Project 2011-32., to Truesdell Corporation of Wisconsin, Inc. as the lowest qualified bidder and <br /> that the Mayor be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest. <br /> PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION: <br /> • April 18, 2011 - City Council approved Resolution R2011-44 authorizing an agreement <br /> with Black &Veatch Corporation to conduct a field inspection of the concrete basins due <br /> to observed concrete deterioration. <br /> • August 29, 2011 - City Council approved Resolution R 2011-138 authorizing an <br /> agreement with Black&Veatch to provide bid drawings, technical specifications and <br /> limited construction related services for this project. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> South Water Treatment Plant Settling Basin Inspection <br /> Since the completion of the South Water Treatment Plant in 1988 there has been no major <br /> concrete maintenance completed in the settling basin portion of the plant (see the attached <br /> drawing). In April, 2011, the City retained the services of Black and Veatch to perform a field <br /> inspection of the South Water Treatment Plant settling basins and access areas to address <br /> concrete deterioration. Inspections were conducted in May and June of 2011 and repair <br /> recommendations were submitted to the City. Concrete repair designs were prepared by Black <br /> and Veatch in late 2011 and early 2012 to address the concrete deterioration noted in the <br /> inspection report. <br /> Page 1 <br />
