Perry, Purchasing Supervisor <br /> SUBJECT: Bid for one (1) Police Full Size Utility Vehicle <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding a contract in the amount of <br /> $27,124.00 to Jackson Ford, Inc. to furnish one (1) 2013 Ford Explorer full size utility vehicle. <br /> BACKGROUND: This vehicle will be used by the Police Department and will replace a 2007 <br /> Chevrolet Tahoe currently in service with 118,556 miles and 11,757 hours. This vehicle has <br /> exceeded the mileage limits for the 100,000 mile power train warranty. The utility vehicle is <br /> used by the street sergeants on the three patrol shifts (24/7). The vehicle carries equipment the <br /> Police Department needs such as ballistic shields, entry tools, smoke, OC canisters, recovery and <br /> rescue ropes,tactical rescue equipment and additional ammunition for numerous weapon types. <br /> Police Chief Todd Walker requested the new vehicle be equipped with 4 wheel drive as currently <br /> the Police Department has no four wheel drive vehicles. The additional cost for the 4 wheel drive <br /> option on this vehicle is $1,040. <br /> Bids for the full size utility vehicle were received from two vehicle dealers. Both dealers are <br /> located in Decatur. The second low bidder is Miles Chevrolet with a bid of$29,376. <br /> The old unit will be sold at auction at a later date. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: There are no known objections to this request. <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Police Department requested the vehicle. Fleet <br /> Maintenance wrote the bid specifications which were reviewed by the Police Department. <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: Richard G. Marley, Public Works Director, Rennie A. Young, Fleet <br /> Supervisor, and Todd A. Walker, Chief of Police. Richard G. Marley will be in attendance at the <br /> City Council meeting to answer any questions of the Council on this item. <br /> This memorandum was prepared by Rennie A.
