McCrady, City Manager Billy Tyus, Assistant City Manager Mark L. Smith, Senior Planner SUBJECT: Annexation of Property at 1290 North Moffet Lane. SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the subject annexation petition be approved. Staff is of the opinion that the proposed annexation would produce a logical extension of the corporate limits. BACKGROUND: Over the last several years city staff has been directed to pursue, whenever feasible, extensions of city boundaries through the use of annexation. The subject property is bounded on the west and south sides by Decatur's City limits. The lot contains approximately 0.85 acres. The lot is improved with the petitioner's residence and accessory buildings. The following information is relevant to the area in question: 1. City water is located 35 feet west of property line. 2. No additional public infrastructure or municipal services are needed or contemplated. 3. Decatur Fire response distance and time averages 3.7 miles and 6.75 minutes,respectively. 4. North Moffet Lane is currently maintained by the City of Decatur. If annexed, the property would come into the city as R-1, Single Family Residence District. Property to the west and south is zoned R-1 Single Family Residential District. Land to the east and immediately north of the subject tract is under the jurisdiction of the County. POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: No known objections. INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: The plat and annexation request has been reviewed by Municipal Services, Public Works, Fire, Legal, Finance, The Sanitary District of Decatur and Macon County Health Department. All of the reviewers recommend the annexation be approved. BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: Based on the 2011 tax year, approximately $300 in real estate, $150 in motor fuel and $175 in state income taxes may be realized by annexing the property.
