h Excerpts from the Traffic & Parking Commission Meeting September 27, 2012 Item#3 Request for a handicapped parking space in front of 1637 East North Street Griffin reported that the residents of 1637 East North Street requested a handicap parking space in front of their house. All three residents living at 1637 East North Street are reported to be disabled. People often park in front of their residence and block their driveway and they have to park further down the block. Wick Anderson asked if there was anyone using the other handicap parking space and if the City could move that space or not. Matt Newell said that the City could look at moving the handicap parking space as it did not appear to be used with the adjacent house vacant. The City has worked to keep a data base and tried to check on them. If the City knows that the space is not being used the City can contact the property owner and follow up on that. Marian Winter asked is there is any data base on how that space is being respected. Newell said that he was not aware of any data like that. There is a$250 fine for parking in a handicap parking space without a placard. Marian Winter asked how a handicap space is identified. Jerry Nihiser explained that the City installs a sign and markings are put on the pavement to identify the space. Staff recommends that a handicap parking space be installed in front of 1637 East North Street. Wick Anderson motioned to approve the recommendation to install a handicap parking space in front of 1637 East North Street; seconded by Lyle Meador and on call of the roll, Commission Member Anderson, Winter, Garry, Harris, Marley, Meador, Stewart, Newell, Nihiser, Enyart voted aye. The Acting Chairman declared the motion carried.
