PUBLIC WORKS MEMORANDUM NO. 2012 - 75 DATE: October 4, 2012 TO: Honorable Mayor McElroy and City Council Members FROM: Ryan P. McCrady, City Manager Richard G. Marley, P.E., Public Works Director SUBJECT: Ordinance Establishing Stop Intersection at West William Street and North Oakcrest Avenue facing West William Street SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the approval of the attached Ordinance authorizing the installation of stop signs at the intersection of West William Street and North Oakcrest Avenue facing West William Street. BACKGROUND: On September 27, 2012, the Traffic &Parking Commission approved a request from City staff recommending that stop signs be installed at the intersection of West William Street and North Oakcrest Avenue facing West William Street. Staff recommends that stop signs be installed due to the poor sight distance at this intersection caused by hedges on both north corners combined with the two recorded traffic accidents within the past four years indicating a pattern with a rate of 3.00 accidents per million vehicles. The Traffic and Parking Commission's recommendation is attached with the ordinance for Council's review. SCHEDULE: Installation is normally completed within 10 days of Council authorization. BUDGET AND STAFFING IMPLICATIONS: Budgetary impacts are approximately$600 for the installation of the requested signs and pavement markings and approximately 2 hours of staff time to make and install the signs. POTENTIAL OBJECTION: No objections anticipated.
