PUBLIC WORKS MEMORANDUM
NO. 2012- 74
DATE: October 4, 2012
TO: Honorable Mayor McElroy and City Council Members
FROM: Ryan P. McCrady, City Manager
Richard G. Marley, P.E., Public Works Director
SUBJECT: Ordinance Establishing Stop Intersection at North Woodford Frontage Road
and North Woodford Street facing North Woodford Frontage Road
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the approval of the attached Ordinance authorizing the installation of stop
signs at the intersection of North Woodford Frontage Road and North Woodford Street facing
North Woodford Frontage Road.
BACKGROUND:
On September 27, 2012, the Traffic & Parking Commission approved a request from City staff
recommending that stop signs be installed at the intersection of North Woodford Frontage Road
and North Woodford Street with the stop signs facing North Woodford Frontage Road.
Staff recommends that stop signs be installed due to staff s observation that traffic coming from
North Woodford Street or on North Woodford Frontage Road rarely yield to incoming traffic. A
citizen reported one traffic accident at this intersection within the last year to City staff; however,
no traffic accident records were found for the past three years. The installation of stop signs will
improve the operation of the intersection.
The Traffic and Parking Commission's recommendation is attached with the ordinance for
Council's review.
SCHEDULE: Installation is normally completed within 10 days of Council authorization.
BUDGET AND STAFFING IMPLICATIONS: Budgetary impacts are approximately $600
for the installation of the requested signs and pavement markings and approximately 2 hours of
staff time to make and install the signs.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: No objections anticipated.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Traffic and Parking Commission
STAFF REFERENCE: Richard Marley, Public Works Director, at 424-
2747
Matt Newell, City Engineer, at 424-2747
Page 11
