Excerpts from the
Traffic & Parking Commission Meeting
August 23, 2012
Item#1 Request for an all way stop at the intersection of Leafland Avenue and Pine
Street
Matt Newell received petitions from the residents near the intersection of Leafland Avenue and
Pine Street about the traffic at this intersection and the danger to small children living in the
neighborhood. Matt Newell said that the sight distance is fairly poor at the intersection.
Currently there is a yield sign there. There is a high accident rate at this location. There have
been six recorded traffic accidents over a three year period. The accident rate at Pine and
Leafland is 5.89 accidents per million vehicles entering the intersection. Traffic &Parking
Commission has historically tried to keep the accident rate below 1.5 accidents per million
vehicles entering the intersection as a threshold for requiring stop signs.
Staff recommends installing a four way stop and pulling parking back from the intersection to
improve visibility.
Marian Winter motioned to approve the recommendation; seconded by Jim Chervinko, and on
call of the roll, Commission Member Winter, Meador, Chervinko, Stewart,Newell, Nihiser,
Enyart, Marley voted aye. The Secretary declared the motion carried.
