RESOLUTION NO. R2015-97 RESOLUTION APPOINTING MAYOR -JULIE MOORE-WOLFE- WHEREAS, Michael T. McElroy, was elected to the office of Mayor of the City of Decatur, Illinois, at the general municipal election held on April 7, 2015, to serve from May 1, 2015 through April 30, 2019; and, WHEREAS, Michael T. McElroy's death on July 17, 2015 created a vacancy in the office of Mayor of said City; and, WHEREAS, on July 17, 2015, more than twenty-eight (28) months remained in Michael T. McElroy's term of office of Mayor, and said date is more than one hundred thirty (130) days prior to the next scheduled general municipal election,to be held on April 4, 2017; and, WHEREAS, pursuant to 65 ILCS 5/5-2-12 and 5/3.1-10-50, the City Council must appoint some person to fill such vacancy until the next scheduled general municipal election. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DECATUR, ILLINOIS: Section 1. That Julie Moore-Wolfe be, and she is hereby, appointed to the office of Mayor of the City of Decatur, Illinois, and that Julie Moore-Wolfe shall perform the duties and possess all the rights and powers of said office, and shall serve until a successor is elected and is qualified as provided by law. Section 2. That Julie Moore-Wolfe does hereby vacate her seat as City Councilman/ Mayor Pro Tem. Section 3. That this Resolution shall be effective immediately upon passage.
