y ' Excerpts from Plan Commission Minutes of April 5,2012 continued:
Mr. Tyus said a specific conversation was held with St. Mary's concerning the eight (8) stories that
will be allowed in Chandler Park and St. Mary's is comfortable with that plan. Mr. Tyus stated signs
were placed throughout the park so the public was made aware this meeting was occurring. Mr. Tyus
said there are landscaping requirements for the Lakefront Overlay District to make sure a park like
setting is maintained. Mr. Tyus stated as of right now, the parks are zoned R-2 and R-3, which allows
for housing to be built. The Lakefront Overlay District basically talks about what can go where.
Mr. Don Luy, President of the Decatur Park Board, was sworn in by Mrs. Poland.
Mr. Luy stated the whole idea is to give people more access to the park and waterfront.
Mr. John stated this is a top class project that has had a lot of public input. He understands and
respects the strong views of the objectors. Mr. John said he does support the project in its concept.
The lakefront access is important and he would welcome an effort between the City and the Park
District that states the intent to maximize public access.
It was moved and seconded (John/Myatt) to forward Cal. No. 12-09 to the City Council with
recommendation for approval as presented by staff. Motion carried 8-1 with Mr. Dial voting no.
It was moved and seconded (Myatt/John) to forward Cal.
