Smith, Senior Planner
SUBJECT: Annexation of the property commonly known as 2421 West Grand Avenue.
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the subject annexation petition be
approved. Staff is of the opinion that the proposed annexation would produce a logical extension of
the corporate limits.
BACKGROUND: The subject property is currently unimproved, adjacent to Decatur's City limits
and contains approximately 1.0 acre. The owner of the property proposed to be annexed resides on
land within city limits immediately to the east. The following information is relevant to the area in
question:
1. The average Decatur Fire response time is five and one-half(5 %)minutes.
4. West Grand Avenue has an oil and chip surface and will maintained by the City of Decatur.
If annexed, the property would come into the city as R-1, Single Family Residence District. Land to
the east and north is zoned R-1 Single Family Residential. Properties to the south are in the R-3
Single Family Residential District. West of the subject tract is in the County.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: No known objections.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: The plat has been reviewed by Municipal Services,
Engineering, Fire, Legal, Finance and Macon County Health Department. All of the reviewers
recommend the annexation be approved.
STAFF REFERENCE: Questions concerning this annexation request should be forwarded to Mark
Smith at 424-2790 or mismithgdecaturil.gov or Billy Tyus at 424-2727 or btyusgdecaturil.gov.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: The property had an assessed value of $3,880 in 2011, an
amount that could change if the property is annexed and/or improved.
