ORDINANCE NO. 2011-68 <br /> ORDINANCE AMENDING CITY CODE <br /> - CHAPTER 35— NUMBERING HOUSES- <br /> BE IT ORDAINED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DECATUR, <br /> ILLINOIS: <br /> Section 1. That the title of Chapter 35 of the City Code of the City of Decatur be, and the <br /> same is hereby changed from "Numbering Houses" to "Premises Identification". <br /> Section 2. That Sections 8, 9 and 10 of said Chapter 35 be, and the same are hereby, <br /> amended and modified, so that as so amended and modified said Sections 8, 9 and 10 shall <br /> provide as follows: <br /> 8. SIZE OF NUMBERS. New and existing buildings shall have <br /> approved address numbers, building numbers or approved building <br /> identification placed in a position that is plainly legible and visible from the <br /> street or road fronting the property. These numbers shall contrast with their <br /> background. Address numbers shall be Arabic numerals or Alphabet letters. <br /> Numbers shall be a minimum of four inches (4") (102 mm) high with a <br /> minimum stroke width of 0.5 inch (12.7 mm). The code enforcement official <br /> may require additional numbers as needed. <br /> 9. PENALTY FOR FAILING TO PROPERLY NUMBER <br /> EXISTING BUILDINGS. Any owner or occupant of any building now <br /> erected in the City, who, after having received a certificate as hereinbefore <br /> provided, shall not, within thirty (30) days thereof, number such building owned <br /> and occupied by him in conformity herewith, or who shall number the same <br /> without having first obtained the proper number thereof, shall be fined not less <br /> than One Hundred Fifty Dollars ($150.00) nor more than Five Hundred Dollars <br /> ($500.00) for each offense, and each day after the thirtieth (30`h) day as <br /> specified herein, or each day that such building shall be numbered without first <br /> having obtained the proper number therefor, as provided herein, shall be <br /> considered a separate offense. <br />
