DEVELOPMENT SERVICES MEMORANDUM
No. 11-05
January 11, 2011
TO: Honorable Mayor Michael T. McElroy and City Council
FROM: Ryan P. McCrady, City Manager
Greg C. Crowe, Assistant City Manager
Mark L. Smith, Senior Planner
SUBJECT: Annexation of the premises commonly known as 1535 North Lake Shore Drive.
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the attached annexation petition be
approved. Staff is of the opinion that the proposed annexation would produce a logical extension of
the corporate limits.
BACKGROUND: A valid petition seeking voluntary annexation of the subject premises has been
filed with the City Clerk's Office. Containing approximately 0.32 acres, the property is improved
with a single family residence. The property is adjacent to properties zoned R-1, Single Family
Residence District to the West and South. Lake Decatur is East across North Lake Shore Drive.
Property to the North is in the County. When annexed, the area will come into the city as R-1, Single
Family Residence District. The following information is relevant to the area in question:
1. The parcel is currently developed with a single family residence.
2. City water is available along North Lake Shore Drive.
3. Sanitary sewer is available.
4. The average Decatur Fire Department response time is five and one-half(5 ''/z)minutes.
5. North Lake Shore Drive is constructed of asphalt and maintained by the City of Decatur.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: No known objections.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: The annexation plat has been reviewed and approved by
Municipal Services, Engineering, Fire, Legal, Finance, Water and the County Health Department.
STAFF REFERENCE: For more information or if there are any additional questions contact
Mark L. Smith at 424-2790 or at mismith(a-)decaturil.gov.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: Additional total annual revenue of approximately $786.73
would become available through annexation. The total is derived from real estate ($434.75) motor
fuel ($162.91)and state income taxes ($189.07).
