Proposed New Waste Removal System
• BASIC WASTE REMOVAL SERVICE (16.65 per month, a 70 cents per month discount
under cost of comparable service today')
o Once a week pickup of waste of up to three (3) 32-gallon cans of trash or one (1)
96-gallon toter/cart.
o Once a week pickup of Single Stream Recycling with One (1) 65-gallon toter/cart
o Limited yard waste pickup for four weeks in April and four weeks in November
• EXPANDED BASIC WASTE REMOVAL SERVICE ($19.65 per month, a 25 cents per month
discount under cost of comparable level of service today)
o Once a week pick up of waste but residents can have up to six (6) 32-gallon cans
or two 96-gallon toters of trash (same amount of trash pickup as current twice
per week service)
o Once a week pickup of Single Stream Recycling with One (1) 65-gallon toter/cart
o Limited yard waste pickup for four weeks in April and four weeks in November
• PREMIUM YARD WASTE OPTION (Additional $1.00 per month)
o Year-round weekly unlimited collection of residential yard waste available for
$1.00 extra per month with the basic or expanded basic service. (same
unlimited yard waste collection as provided currently)
NOTES:
1. The total amount now paid by residents for garbage and recycling would go down for
basic service levels even though the recycling charge seen on water bills would be
increased by 50 cents per month. This is because the city is lowering the cost of garbage
collection for all service levels. Additional $0.50 to be used by the City to reimburse
Midwest Fiber for 65 gallon recycling toter/carts or bins provided to residents at no
charge and for education efforts to increase recycling.
2. Residents may have the option of renting a toter/cart from the hauler, buying a
toter/cart from their hauler or buying an approved toter/cart from a department store.
Hauler may only charge a monthly fee if they are renting a toter/cart to the
homeowner.
3. Bag service to be continued for residents that produce a minimal amount of trash. Yard
waste pickup not included with bag service.
4. Curbside or alley pickup to continue.
5. Elimination of back door service except for valid hardship reasons. Haulers may
continue to provide back door service and may charge an additional fee if they choose
to do so. City will not set a rate for the additional back door fee.
