DEVELOPMENT SERVICES MEMORANDUM
Memo No. 10-12
March 1, 2010
TO: Honorable Mayor Michael T. McElroy nd City Council Members
FROM: Ryan P. McCrady, City Manager
Greg Crowe,Assistant City Managq!5c
Richelle D. Irons,Director of Neighborhood Seryices kl7
Dave Griffiths,Neighborhood Inspections Administratorpo
SUBJECT: Chapter 56 City Code
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends Council approve the Ordinance changing
Chapter 56 of the City Code as it relates to the Definitions section of the code. The definition of
Commercial service currently reads, "Commercial: All that which is not residential." The
recommendation is to change the definition to, "Commercial: All that which is not residential as well as
properties owned by the Decatur Housing Authority."
BACKGROUND: Currently, the Decatur Housing Authority has numerous scattered site housing units
around the city. With the current system involving waste haulers they are required to negotiate contracts
for service with numerous haulers. Altering the code to allow these sites to be considered "commercial',
will enable them to more adequately keep track and provide waste hauling services for these scattered
sites with one commercially licensed hauler.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: N/A
STAFF REFERENCE: Any additional questions may be forwarded to Dave Griffiths at 424-2794 or at
dgriffiths@decaturil.gov.
