t
PUBLIC WORKS MEMORANDUM
NO. 2009- 104
DATE: October 23, 2009
TO: Honorable Mayor McElroy and City uncil Members
FROM: Ryan P. McCrady, City Manager
Richard G. Marley, P.E., Public Works Director
SUBJECT: Ordinance Authorizing the Installation of Angled Parking Spaces in the 100
Block of South Water Street.
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
City staff and the Traffic and Parking Commission recommend the approval of the attached
Ordinance authorizing the installation of angled parking spaces on the east side of the 100 block
of South Water Street.
BACKGROUND:
The Traffic and Parking Commission on October 13, 2009, voted to recommend the installation
of angled parking spaces on the east side of the 100 block of South Water Street as requested by
Mr. Tony Romano who is trying to lease out the old Regions Bank building (southeast corner
Main and Water). Installing angled parking will create approximately 10 additional parking
spaces on the street. Mr. Romano indicated that increasing the number of parking spaces by
converting to angled parking would help in finding tenants for the building. The requested
parking layout on Water Street will function very similar to the layout currently on Prairie Street
just north of the library. Traffic will remain two-way on Water Street.
The Commission voted to recommend the installation of angled parking spaces on the east side
of the 100 block of South Water Street at the request of Mr. Tony Romano.
Staff indicated to the Commission that with the cold weather, it may be necessary to defer re-
striping the street until late spring or early summer of 2010.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION; No objections anticipated.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Traffic and Parking Commission
STAFF REFERENCE: Richard Marley, Director or Engineering and
Infrastructure, at 424-2747
Matt Newell, City Engineer, at 424-2747
Page 1
