3. Cost - The persons (s) or organization making the request shall be responsible for paying
the cost of manufacturing and installing the sign as determined by the Public Works
Director or his designee based on actual costs for similar signs. Payment shall be made
prior to sign fabrication and installation. Funds collected shall be deposited in the sign
materials budget line item.
4. Duration - The city replaces street name signs on an approximate ten (10) year cycle.
Honorary street name designations will be reviewed and considered by the City Council
for continuation as new street name signs are being placed in the area. If the City Council
determines that renewal is warranted, the person or organization requesting the
designation shall be responsible for the cost of replacing and installing the sign.
5. Notification — The City shall make reasonable attempts to send notice to individuals and
businesses in and around the area of the honorary designation in advance of the honorary
street name designation being made. The letters would also encourage said residents
and/or business owners to contact the city with questions.
6. Program Administration -- The program shall be administered by the City Manager's
Office unless otherwise designated by the Manager.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: There are no known objections to this project.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: We informally surveyed other cities about their
honorary street sign programs and talked with
individuals who have expressed an interest in an
honorary designation.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: Budget implications should be minimal as the
applicant will be responsible for the cost of the sign
and installation. We could experience minimal
maintenance costs.
STAFF REFERENCE: Billy Tyus at 424-2753 or btyus@decaturil.gov
