COUNCIL MEMORANDUM
#2009-13
DATE: July 14, 2009
TO: Honorable Mayor Michael T. McElroy and City Council
FROM: Ryan P. McCrady, City Manager
SUBJECT: Proposed Amendment to Chapter 7 of City Code
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that City Council approve the
attached ordinance amending the Decatur City Code at Chapter 7, Officers and
Employees Generally.
BACKGROUND: Until late 2000, the organizational structure of the Water
Management Department included the position of Water Production Operations
Supervisor. At that time, the position was eliminated in favor of the Water Production
Manager position. Because of initial restructuring resulting from the Voluntary
Severance Plan being implemented in the current fiscal year, the Director of Water
Management now wishes to reinstate the Water Productions Operations Supervisor in
lieu of the Water Production Manager position.
Also, the position of Water Customer Service Supervisor was created in 2005 to
manage the work in the Water Customer Service office in the Finance Department.
Recently the position was reevaluated for current duties and responsibilities, and it was
determined that the position should be re-titled Water Customer Service Manager.
It is therefore recommended that the above mentioned changes be incorporated into
Chapter 7 of the City Code.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: There are no known objections to these changes.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None.
STAFF REFERENCE: Questions regarding the changes should be directed to Keith
Alexander, Water Management Director, at 424-2834 or kalexander(D-decaturil.gov, and
Ron Neufeld, Finance Director, at 424-2702 or rneufeld decaturil.gov.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: The changes would take effect immediately. Net
salary effects from these changes will be minimal.
attachments
