COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM <br /> PURCHASING & INTERNAL SERVICES MEMORANDUM <br /> #11-36 <br /> November 15, 2011 <br /> TO: Honorable Mayor McElroy and City Council <br /> FROM: Ryan P. McCrady, City Manager <br /> Ron Neufeld, Financial Management Director <br /> Deborah M. Perry, Purchasing Supervisor I <br /> SUBJECT: Smoke Alarm and CO2 Alarm Bids <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding contract to Black & <br /> Company to furnish the following: <br /> 200 —First Alert SA305CN 10 year battery smoke alarms <br /> 50—First Alert CN0400 Carbon Monoxide alarms <br /> 100—First Alert SC05CN Combo Smoke & Carbon Monoxide alarms <br /> BACKGROUND: The smoke alarms will be used by the Fire Department. The alarms will be <br /> provided free of charge, in conjunction with the key box program to Decatur residents who <br /> cannot afford them. <br /> The alarms will be purchased using money from a federal FEMA fire prevention grant and the <br /> balance coming from the Foreign Fire Insurance Board. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: The Fire Department requested the cameras and <br /> recommend approval of bid. <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: Matt Sekosky, Fire Chief, 424-2811. Jeff Abbott, Deputy Fire Chief, <br /> 424-2811. Matt will be at the council meeting to answer any questions the council may have <br /> about this purchase. <br /> BUDGET: $7480.50 from the 80/20 share program from the FEMA fire prevention grant and <br /> the Foreign Fire Insurance. <br />
