Public Works Memorandum
NO. 2011-75
DATE: October 26, 2011
TO: Honorable Mayor McElroy and City Council
FROM: Ryan P. McCrady, City Manager
Richard G. Marley, P.E., Public Works Director
SUBJECT: Annual Sanitary Sewer Cleaning Project, CP 2011-12, Change Order#1
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing the Mayor to
sign and the City Clerk to attest Change Order#1 to City Project 20011-12, 2011 Annual Sanitary
Sewer Cleaning. Said Changer Order will provide additional funding in the amount of$14,400 for
the cleaning of storm sewers on Brush College Road.
PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION:
• July 5, 2011 —The City Council approved resolution R2011-108, which accepted the bid and
contract with Walden Associated Technologies for CP 2011-12, Annual Sanitary Sewer
Cleaning Project.
BACKGROUND:
During the Brush College Road Underpass Study, the City and its consultant, URS, sought out
information and input from many stakeholders with property near the project area. The Canadian
National Railroad (CN) is a key stakeholder because they own the track just west of Brush College
Road. During the information gathering portion of the project, CN expressed concerns about
inadequate drainage at the underpass. The CN track sits lower than the roadway at the underpass and
has been flooded several times in the last 3 years. When flooded, the tracks cannot be utilized by CN
trains, causing a loss in productivity and revenue. The CN tracks have storm sewers that drain to the
City's storm sewers stem under Brush College Road.
r
Flooded
Canadian
National tracks
eµE
Page 1
