Marley, P.E., Director of Public Works <br /> SUBJECT: Pavement Widening on Lake Shore Drive East of Nelson Park <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing the <br /> expenditure of$11,945 to Otto Baum Company Inc. for pavement widening on Lake Shore <br /> Drive on the east edge of Nelson Park. The resolution authorizes an additional$1,500 in <br /> contingency for the proposed work for a total expenditure of up to $13,445. <br /> PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION: <br /> There was no formal action by the City Council on this item. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> On September 1, 2011, the Decatur Park District closed Lake Shore Drive just west of the CSX <br /> railroad subway as part of the redevelopment of Nelson Park. In order to accommodate traffic at <br /> the closure, City staff proposes that the pavement be widened as shown on the attached drawing. <br /> To perform the work, the City received quotes for asphalt and concrete widening. <br /> Contractor Pavement Type Quote <br /> Otto Baum Company Concrete $11,945.00 <br /> Dunn Company Asphalt $14,985.00 <br /> Staff considers the quotes provided to be reasonable for the work. It is recommended that the <br /> quote from Otto Baum be approved. The work will include grading a portion of the existing <br /> gravel parking area and placing a 6" concrete pavement. Otto Baum has completed numerous <br /> concrete projects for the City. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this request. <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None <br /> Page 1 <br />
