-MINUTES OF PUBLIC HEARING -
Decatur Public Transit System
A public hearing was held on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., in the
Transit Administration Building, 555 E. Wood St., Decatur. The purpose of the public hearing
was to receive public comment on the proposal to file an amended mass transit grant application
with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
The notice of the hearing was published in the Decatur Tribune newspaper on August 10th.
Notices were also posted in the Senator Severns Transit Center, in the Transit Administration
Building, and in all of the Transit System's buses and paratransit vans.
One person attended the hearing. She said that she was in favor of purchasing replacement fare
boxes for the buses because it would make it easier for riders to insert dollar bills, and make it
easier for the drivers to see how much money had been placed into the fare box. She said that
security cameras at the Transit Center were "definitely needed." She said that cameras might
prevent people from fighting or disturbing others and that it would assist the Police in identifying
those involved in criminal activity.
The published notice of the hearing also stated that written comments would be accepted by
mail, by delivery, by FAX, and by e-mail until 5:00 p.m. on August 17''. One written comment
was received. The writer stated that installing security cameras at the Transit Center was
unnecessary and, "The monies would be better spent extending bus service an extra hour in the
evenings or having Sunday bus service."
08/18/2011
Paul McChancy Date
Mass Transit Administrator
