Marley, P.E., Director of Public Works <br /> Keith D.Alexander, Director of Water Management <br /> SUBJECT: Pavement Repair for Emergency Water Main Repair at Marietta <br /> Street <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution <br /> authorizing expenditures of$16,016 to Dunn Company for the repair of street damages <br /> resulting from a water main break on West Marietta Street. <br /> PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION: <br /> No prior Council action has been taken on this repair work. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> On February 27, 2011, a 6" water main in West Marietta Street, at Linden Avenue, <br /> ruptured causing damage to a large area of pavement. There have been several water <br /> main repairs in the past that have contributed to an accelerated deterioration of the section <br /> of road. <br /> The necessary repair work was initiated immediately and completed by the City of <br /> Decatur Water Department. The asphalt road could not be replaced at the time of the <br /> repair due to winter shutdown of asphalt plants and the repair trench was filled with <br /> temporary rock. <br /> Approximately 154 square yards of asphalt was damaged due to the water main break. <br /> This size of repair is beyond the ability of City crews to repair due to the lack of required <br /> equipment. A quote of$16,016 was received from Dunn Company to remove all <br /> damaged pavement, replace with 5 inches of asphalt and provide all necessary traffic <br /> control. Staff considers this estimate reasonable and wishes to use Dunn Company to <br /> repair the pavement. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this request. <br /> Page I 1 <br />
