SUMMARY OF PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> - SENIOR CITIZEN BUS FARE PROPOSAL- <br /> Two public hearings were held totaling 6 hours. The public was invited to stop in to make <br /> comments and ask questions from 1:00 to 4:00 PM on Friday, April 29d', and from 10:00 AM to <br /> 1:00 PM on Monday, May 2nd. The public was also invited to submit comments by fax, mail, <br /> e-mail, or in person, up to the deadline of 5:00 PM, May 2nd <br /> Three people came to the hearings to give comments, and one City Council member attended to <br /> gather information on the proposal. Five people submitted comments by fax, etc. Summaries of <br /> the 8 comments follow: <br /> • Would like bus rides for all senior citizens to be free. (This person is a senior citizen who <br /> would not qualify for free rides under Circuit Breaker.) <br /> • Believes that"those who can pay, should pay". Supports the fare increase for senior <br /> citizens who would not qualify for Circuit Breaker. (This person is a senior citizen who <br /> would not qualify for free rides under Circuit Breaker.) <br /> • Would like bus rides for all senior citizens to be free. Believes that "senior citizens have <br /> paid their dues" and should be allowed to ride for free. (This person will be a senior <br /> citizen soon.) <br /> • Hopes that the City allows all senior citizens to ride buses for free because they're on <br /> fixed incomes and can't afford to pay. (This person is a senior citizen who would qualify <br /> for free rides under Circuit Breaker.) <br /> • Agrees with free rides only for senior citizens who qualify for Circuit Breaker. (This <br /> person is a senior citizen who would qualify for free rides under Circuit Breaker.) <br /> • Would like bus rides for all senior citizens to be free. (This person is a senior citizen.) <br /> • Believes that the fare increase for senior citizens who would not qualify for Circuit <br /> Breaker"is not appropriate at this time"because most senior citizens live on a fixed <br /> social security income and have not received a cost of living increase. <br /> • Would like bus rides for all senior citizens to be free,because senior citizens live on <br /> small, fixed incomes and have large medical expenses.
