R PUBLIC <br /> TRANSIT <br /> 1f SYSTEM <br /> The State recently passed legislation that rescinded the requirement <br /> that all senior citizens be permitted to ride buses for free, and <br /> replaced it with the requirement that senior citizens who are <br /> certified under the Circuit Breaker program ride buses for free. <br /> The City still has the option to continue to allow all senior citizens <br /> to ride buses for free. <br /> The Decatur Public Transit System (DPTS) will hold PUBLIC <br /> HEARINGS on a proposal to increase bus fares for some senior <br /> citizens. Under this proposal, senior citizens who are certified for <br /> the State's Circuit Breaker program would ride buses for FREE, <br /> but senior citizens who are not certified for Circuit Breaker would <br /> pay$0.50 per bus ride—one half of the regular fare for an adult. <br /> No other bus fares would be changed under this proposal. There <br /> would be no change in the fares for Operation Uplift, the door-to- <br /> door van and taxi service for people with disabilities. <br /> The Public Hearings will be held on Friday, April 29, from 1:00 to <br /> 4:00 PM, and on Monday, May 2, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. <br /> Both Hearings will be held in the Transit Administration Building, <br /> 555 E. Wood Street, Decatur, IL, 62523. Everyone is invited to <br /> stop in during those times to voice their opinions about the <br /> proposed change. Written comments may be mailed or hand <br /> delivered to Paul McChancy, Mass Transit Administrator, at the <br /> address above, or sent by e-mail to PMcChancy@decaturil.gov, or <br /> faxed to 424-2818.
