Staff estimates that the proposed fare change will generate
about $10-15,000 in farebox revenue annually. The increased
revenue is greatly needed in light of soaring fuel costs and
potential decreases in federal operating grants.
Staff recommends that the fare increase become effective on July
1, 2011, and that the annual certification be valid through June 30th
of the following year. This would match the disabled riders/
Circuit Breaker program (i.e. the 2010 identification cards for
disabled riders are valid through June 30, 2011.)
POTENTIAL Objections to this or any fare increase are expected.
OBJECTION:
INPUT FROM Richard Foiles, General Manager, First Transit
OTHER SOURCES:
STAFF REFERENCE: Paul McChancy, Mass Transit Administrator
BUDGET/TIME Some additional staff time would be required to process photo
IMPLICATIONS: identification cards for senior citizens who are certified for Circuit
Breaker.
