Perry, Purchasing Supervisor <br /> SUBJECT: Bids for Janitorial Service <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding a contract to Clean <br /> Services Unlimited to provide janitorial services at the Municipal Service Center. <br /> BACKGROUND: This janitorial contract will be from May 1, 2011 — April 30, 2012. The <br /> janitorial services consist of cleaning the offices, conference room, restrooms and breakrooms at <br /> the Municipal Service Center located on Jasper Street. <br /> The janitorial service is currently being provided by Nord Cleaning Service. However, staff at <br /> the Municipal Building have experienced problems with the service provided by Nord. On <br /> several occasions during the past year the Forestry Supervisor contacted the owner of Nord to <br /> express dissatisfaction with certain aspects of the work being performed. For example, dirt has <br /> been left on walls, dirty tile floors, dirty mirrors, dust on surfaces and dirt under carpet runners. <br /> In addition to the poor quality of work, Nord Cleaning Service is lacking in providing enough <br /> employees on site to do the work. <br /> At least two letters were mailed to Nord outlining the problems with their service. Some <br /> improvement was seen by City staff, but many deficiencies were not addressed and still remain a <br /> problem. City staff does not believe Nord Cleaning Service will provide adequate services to <br /> comply with the written specifications of this bid. <br /> The second low bid of Clean Services Unlimited provided references that currently use their <br /> services. The references indicated Clean Services Unlimited to be very dependable and <br /> responsive. <br />
