Perry, Purchasing Supervisorde <br /> SUBJECT: Bids for Fire Hose <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding contract to Banner Fire to <br /> furnish forty (40) 100 ft. sections of 5"Key fire hose and couplings. <br /> BACKGROUND: The fire hose will be used by the Fire Department and will replace 15-20 <br /> year old hose currently in service. The useful life set by National Fire Protection Association <br /> regulation 1961 for fire hose is 10 years. The old hose will be thrown away because of the age. <br /> The alternate bid submitted by AEC has Action metal couplings which are not hard coated. The <br /> City specifications requested hard coated couplings which last longer when the hose is dropped <br /> or pulled across the ground. <br /> The second low bid of Tower Fire Apparatus does not meet specifications in several areas as <br /> follows: <br /> Tower City Reason <br /> Proof test pressure 400 psi 450 psi The higher the test rating, <br /> Service test pressure 200 psi 225 psi the more resistant the hose <br /> Burst test pressure 600 psi 675 is to failure. <br /> Weight per foot 1.05 1.0 A section of 5"hose weighing 1.0 lb. <br /> per foot is 5 lbs lighter than a section <br /> weighing 1.05 lbs per foot. When <br /> carrying 100 lbs of rolled up hose, <br /> every pound lighter is better for <br /> moving the hose. <br />
